BEAR Implant Procedure with AOSMI #aclreconstructionprocedure #newjersey #kneecare #sportsmedicine
Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute is proud to provide the BEAR Implant procedure. Michael Greller, MD, MBA is the first in Monmouth county to use the breakthrough technology called the BEAR® Implant for treatment of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears, one of the most common knee injuries in the U.S.
The BEAR Implant is the first medical advancement to enable your body to heal its own torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). ACL tears are often treated with surgery called ACL reconstruction. Unlike many other ligaments in the body, your torn ACL does not have the ability to heal on its own. The BEAR Implant acts as a bridge to help the torn ends of the ACL heal together....

    What is you're an older patient with a "well defined area of injury to the joint?" And will insurance cover this, or is it an "out of pocket" type procedure? (Seems pretty simple and straightforward.) And is this "juvenile cartilage" that is implanted taken from young kids that died (unfortunately) or is it just some sort of "immortal line" of cartilage developed from some "immortal line" of stem cells in a laboratory? What's the story there?

      I'm ten days away from this surgery and honestly, scared to death because my other shoulder had a 'repair' years ago that was unimaginable pain and 7 months to heal. My new surgeon I have is top rated in our state told me this is nothing like a rotator cuff repair and I won't have that kind of pain. Would you agree????? How are you now??

    • @johndrasutphin8823
      @johndrasutphin8823 4 месяца назад

      You are right! I’m 5 1/2 weeks out and I haven’t had pain since the 4th day after surgery. I go to therapy and do my exercises at home. I’ve even, with care, have resumed doing some things around the house. I had a reverse shoulder replacement and my surgeon is excellent. I had surgery on both of my feet for bunions and hammer toes 15 years ago and it was harder and longer to recover from.

  • @nandogarza8807

    I'm glad to see the success this patient has had. I'm not sure that it's necessarily what others should always expect. I didn't get out of the sling after my complete reverse shoulder replacement for 6 and a half weeks and then I could only bend my elbow. I could not move my arm to the right or left more than a half an inch. Moving it forward and backward was still in the future. Raising my hand over my head as this patient does so comfortably was much much later. Also, since I live alone I had no one to take care of me and so I was sent to a nursing center for a while. They were afraid I'd trip and fall. I was 13 days away from home. The good news is that it wasn't painful. I used no pain killers after the first day or so. I have good use of the arm now although it gets tired quickly. I can raise my hand over my head easily and reach for things on the high shelf. It's been over five months and I'm not sure I will ever get my hand behind my back. I seem to be stuck at the stage this patient is at. I plan to talk to the surgeon again about this and see if I can get more movement. Still, I've very glad to have this second chance because I broke the head completely off the humerus and the arm had already been previously injured with inoperable tendon damage.

    This surgery is generally only done on adults who are not growing. If it was to be done on a child, the result would probably be generation of new cartilage with expansion of the graft since the graft has similar qualities to the adjacent cartilage. As I have no first-hand knowledge of this, I am just speculating.

  • @AdvancedOrthoSports
    @AdvancedOrthoSports 11 лет назад

    Either way it is a joint replacement. Generally, the same implants can be used and the result is the same. The difference is that a minimally invasive approach can be performed with a smaller incision(s) and can result in a faster recovery.
